Step #4 SEND
The last step of the vision is the exciting step of laying hands on faithful men and women and releasing them as examples of mature Christians that have proved themselves and are ready to mentor others. As the disciple progresses through the School of Leaders, he opens his own cell after the second trimester and begins to develop his twelve, taking them through each step of the process of the vision: winning them, consolidating them, discipling them, and eventually sending them "to make disciples of all nations."
If we have come to the final step and we have no leaders to send to the world, we must evaluate our process and learn to do it better because every good tree will bear good fruit. It will not happen quite as quick as most would like, but if we are patient and focused, we will see the power of God heal, deliver and transform every person and bring them into fruitfulness.
SMALL GROUPS/CELL MINISTRY
The Cell Ministry at Bethany World Prayer Center is the "heart" of our ministry. Since April 1993, Bethany has pastored its members through hundreds of "Touch Groups." Led by a mature and trained Bethany believer, each group consists of four to twelve Christians who meet weekly in homes, on the job, or wherever they choose. Various topics for men, women, professionals, college students, youth, and children are available for the groups to explore.
The cell meetings constitute small weekly teachings where the Word of God is shared in a simple and practical way. The cell also serves an evangelistic mission since new people are being invited and won to Christ each week. Generally speaking, the cell enables a person to grow in his relationship with God through the knowledge of his Word, and in relationship with each other in an intimate setting. The goal of each group is to prepare its members for cell leadership by introducing them to our base-path training.
Hundreds have shared how cells have blessed their lives. Cells bring life. Cells reach out to the community. Cells are fun! Cells are about relationships. Each week several hundred cells meet here in the Baton Rouge area, reaching out and offering hope to a hurting world. There are many definitions that could be used to describe cell life, but the bottom line is that cells are the eyes, ears, mouths, and hands of Jesus Christ. Cell groups meet on a weekly basis with ten to fifteen people. A weekly Bible study lesson is shared with real life applications, putting the story of the Bible into OUR world. Cell members walk away from the meetings feeling renewed and refreshed in their spirits.
OPEN CELL
A cell group is born when a leader has been released to begin mentoring and discipling a new convert. Sometimes it will begin with just one person. Many churches do not qualify the cells as a full cell until there are four, but many cells usually start with just one or two people.
The cell group is birthed and continues to grow. During the first stage of the cell it is called an “open cell” or in other words a cell that is open to any individual. The purpose is to win souls and begin to develop them in the Lord. Cell members invite their friends and there is a focus on building that cell into a healthy group of 12 individuals. Sometimes it will grow larger than 12 and that is not a problem.
The leader will begin to introduce all the cell members into the process to help them develop in the Lord. When members begin to show signs of spiritual health, they will become soul winners and focused on the harvest.
CLOSED CELL
Once there is a group of 12 leaders that all have cells themselves, the cell becomes a closed cell. The reason it is a closed cell is that now the cell takes on a new dynamic of coaching leaders or management. The cells are usually longer and new people may not be able to stay for two or three hours in a cell.
It is closed because this cell has changed and become a cell of leaders, and the leader is focused now on keeping his leaders healthy and focused. The words given in the closed cell will be strong words or the “meat of the Word”.
Where are the souls won now? Well they are won in the macro cells or in the open cells in that generation. |
